Geography: Landforms & Bodies of Water Social Studies Unit for 2nd and 3rd Grade

Explore Earth’s Surface with this 10-Day Landforms & Bodies of Water Unit for Grades 2–3!

This resource helps students discover the many ways Earth’s land and water shape our world. Through engaging lessons, interactive activities, and clear visuals, learners will build a strong foundation in geography while making meaningful connections to their daily lives.

Teachers often struggle to:

• Introduce landforms and bodies of water in a way that’s engaging and age-appropriate
• Teach key geography terms like mountain, valley, river, ocean, and plateau in a meaningful context
• Help students accurately identify landforms and bodies of water
• Explain the similarities and differences between major land and water features
• Differentiate content to meet the needs of diverse learners

The unit includes interactive PowerPoints, enrichment activities, task cards, a research project, and an assessment. Students also complete a social studies booklet to track their learning each day.

By the end of this unit, students will not only recognize how landforms and bodies of water shape Earth’s surface, but also explain how geography impacts where people live, how they travel, and how they use natural resources. They’ll leave with a deeper understanding of physical geography and a stronger connection to the land and water features in their own community and state.
