How it to Use it in the Classroom:
Digital:
The digital version includes 47 different Google Slides for use with Google Classroom. This is a great option if your copy budget is limited or if you are in a 1:1 classroom. Kids love working on devices.
Students will interact with the slides by manipulating digital tools, typing in responses, and reflecting on their learning. Audio is also included on all the teaching slides. When students press on the audio button, they will have the slides read to them. This added feature is awesome for younger grades as well as your struggling readers.
There’s also a PowerPoint version for use with other LMS.
When you use the digital version, this is a no-prep activity. Simply assign the slides through your Google classroom (or your learning management system) and kids can get to work.
Printable:
We’ve also included a printable option for you to use in class. Simply download the printable PDF and make a copy for each student in your class. I recommend making a packet for each student.
Students can write directly on the pages and complete the puzzles and games in their packets. The printable version can be used whole group, individually, or in centers.
The printable version is low prep, simply print and present.
This Growth Mindset activity is a great resource to use at the beginning of the year.
- Assign the digital version in classrooms that have 1:1 devices – post in Google classroom or another LMS
- Use the printable version in the classroom
- Use a combination of the two – use the digital teaching slides to present material and allow students to complete the activities on the printable slides
- Work on the project (digital or printable) as a class during a whole group lesson
- Use the digital version in the classroom during centers and allow the students working on technology to work on growth mindset
- Incorporate the Growth Mindset activities into your SEL lessons
- Use in conjunction with read alouds about Growth Mindset
- Place the printable activity in centers
- Use during morning work or for fast finishers
Differentiation:
- An audio feature on the digital slides reads text to students. This is great for lower grades or struggling readers.
- Growth Mindset is important for ALL students, but it can be especially important for low learners–who believe they can’t do hard things and for advanced/gifted students–who are afraid of making mistakes
- Work on these activities as a whole group to provide additional support to learners; more advanced learners can work independently or with a partner
Time to Complete:
The amount of time this activity will take will depend on whether you are doing it as a whole group or individually. It will also depend on the age of your students and whether they are having the audio read to them. We recommend devoting about thirty minutes a day to this activity over the course of a week.
