“I’m bigger than life, my name in the lights. I’m the number one chick, I don’t need no hype.”
Just like Beyoncé, you exude confidence as a writing teacher—and you don’t need an alter ego to pull it off. You love teaching your students how to write, and you’re good at it. Your students may even cheer when it’s time to start writing, because they’re your biggest fans.
At your school, you’re the Queen (or King) Bey of teaching writing. When another teacher needs advice or is feeling completely at a loss as to what to do, they go straight to you. (Or else other teachers point them in your direction.) Just as Beyoncé seeks to lift up other artists, so do you for teachers who need help.
In other words…you slay.
However, even though Beyoncé sings “I woke up like this”…the truth is that Beyoncé works REALLY hard to be as flawless as she is. That’s true of you too…but are you working TOO hard?
Working hard, or working TOO hard?
Many of the most talented and confident writing teachers can be prone to making teaching writing too hard on themselves—without even knowing it!
The likely culprit? You’re spending A LOT of time preparing for your writing lessons, or else spending too much time editing your students’ masterpieces.
Or, maybe your strongest writers take to writing like ducks to water, but you spend a lot of extra time helping your struggling writers keep up with your lessons.
The truth is: if you could simplify your process, you could have an even greater impact on your students. Even Beyonce has a Glamour Squad to help her pull off her incredible performances.

Who is the Not So Wimpy Writing Teacher?
, I’m Jamie Sears. You may know me from such websites as The Not So Wimpy Teacher or TPT, or Facebook groups with the NSWT name. (Bonus points if you get The Simpsons reference!)
I help teachers overcome the challenges of teaching in the 21st century. I’m a wife, mother of 5 fantastic kids, education blogger, and curriculum author.
I’m particularly passionate about helping teachers up their teaching writing game. Why?
Because once upon a time, I really struggled with it. So I tried out different techniques until I found the ones that worked. I took those, added a few simple changes to my approach, and lo and behold, I had created the recipe for student writing success!
And now I too slay all day like Beyoncé.
Let’s keep the party going!
Over the next few weeks I’ll be emailing you my top “Upgrade U” strategies and tools you need to make this whole teaching writing thing even easier for you. ← Even the best writing teachers have told me they learned a thing or two about handling this.
